There are 3 large rivers running in Kaikoura --- Hapuku River, Waimangarara River, and Comway River. Waimangarara River supplies water to people in Kaikoura Town. They say that "wai" means "water" in Maori.
Waimangarara River runs at the foot of the mountains. There is a pipe underground along the road.
Water is drawn from the pump in the left of the picture.
The pumped water is purified in this small hut. 2,760 people living in Kaikoura Town use the water.
