New Year's Day, January 1

During New Year's holidays, we place Kagamimochi (rice cakes decorated with fern leaves and an orange offered to a deity) in the alcove. We also place Shimekazari (a decoration of twisted straw rope with fern leaves, an orange and other items of good omen) there.

These are dishes for New Year's Day. They are called Osechi Ryori.

Family members get together to celebrate the New Year's Day.
