Tourloti

My village, Tourloti, is in eastern Crete. It's a very beautiful village with about 350 people. Here, the people are farmers because there aren't many job choices. In my free time, I usually go to the cafe, known as ''Terzis'' or I go for a walk with my friends. From my village I like the people, our cafes and our biggest church ''Panagia'' (: Virgin Mary) most.

Our school

Our school is on the top of the village. It is very beautiful. In the school there are twenty four students aged 12-15 years old. They live in Tourloti and other villages nearby. The students go home by bus. I like the school trips.

Our classrooms

My classroom is very old and miserable. It has only one window and the only thing which someone can see is the wall from a house next to our school. The walls of our classroom are very old too. It has 3 or 4 big holes on it. We are trying to hide them with some posters but no luck! In my classroom, there are 7 desks and at each of them sits one student.

Other rooms

There are three labs in our school, a computer lab, technology lab and science lab. The computer lab is big. There are ten computers, printers and a projector. We learn how to use computers. The technology lab is beautiful and big. There are many projects from the children. We learn how to make projects. In the science lab, there are chemistry instruments. We learn experiments there.

Our school yard

Our school yard is large and has a church in the centre. It has two courts, one for volleyball and one for basketball, but the basketball court is under construction. The school yard is fantastic. We can see the sea and the view from there is beautiful.

Going for a walk in the country

In our school program some days are set aside for school trips, visits, etc. Our last school trip was a wonderful day for our school. When all the children got to school, we asked our teachers for a walk. They agreed with us and we began for our walk. We were walking all together in the country and we went to a small church, named Aghios Georgios (Saint George). We had a rest there and then we got back to our school. Then some children played basketball, volleyball or football in our schoolyard. It was a very nice day for us. We had a good time and a lot of fun.

A day in our country

A day which was very pleasant to all the children for our school is the national holiday of the 28th of October. Everyone gathered at the school court, boys wore white jumper and blue trousers girls wore white jumper and blue skirt, our national colours. Later we went to the church and then followed the poems and the laying of the wreaths. At the end everyone gathered at the right rows with the flag in front for a parade.
