Sudava Secondary School Vilkavskis Lithuania

Sudava Secondary School, situated in the north of Vilkavskis district, not far from the river Sesupe, has just celebrated its 56th birthday. The school is surrounded by the park, which was established by the school students and which is still being looked after by the students and the teachers.The school can boast of its multicoloured flowerbeds all around its area. When the school was founded, there were only five wooden houses brought from different parts of the country and erected in that place. At that time the school was called Arminai Secondary School.The new school was built in 1967 and it was named after the village Suduva. Everyone can get acqainted with the history of the school in the school museum of regional studies. The school is proud having its flag, anthem and coat of arms. The headmistress of the school is Mrs Laima Pakinkiene. There are 30 teachers, 6 of which are the school leavers of Suduva Secondary School. The children are taught 3 foreign languages ˇ¦English, German and Russian. The school has got its choir, song and dance groups, which perform national and modern songs and dances. The school organizes a lot of sport events and competitions as well. The lovers of literature enjoy taking part in the Maironieciu club (it is named after the famous national bard Maironis).The members of this club take part in the championships of their creative literature works, become the winners or get diplomas. They are also active participants in different poetry festivals, days of the Baltic unity, Gorge festivals, expeditions and excursions. School art and design clubs are famous for their activities too, as the walls of the school are decorated by the students' as well. During the holidays guests can see national and modern clothes the authors of which are our school students. The teenagers are involved in the regional studies of the country. They not only take part in the festivals, championships, but write papers on different topics, leaving them at the school museum later, and take care of the mounds in the surrounding areas. The school organizes language days, exhibitions and poetry evenings. Students wait for their friends coming from other schools and taking part in the competitions or just having a good time and becoming friends. The young lovers of literature prepare for religious and artistic reading, the best letter and essay championships, present their own creation in the district or republic competitions. The school has won a number of prizes in such competitions. Our students take part in the Movement of Goodness, look after the forgotten graves. They also visit the Home of Disabled People, Old People's Home, where they give concerts, bring them presents, play chess, draught, talk or read books. Students like traveling and getting aquatinted with the native land. Visiting lakes, sanctuaries, historical places, architectural buildings, art exhibitions, museums of regional studies and smithery, the Clock Museum, the Maritime Museum stimulates students' thinking, feelings, imagination, enriches their experience. The school president, elected by the students, takes an active part in self-government of the school, edits the school newspaper "Among Us". The school has had 46 crops of school leavers, who have shown themselves being honest and conscientious in their life. We are proud of the school leavers, who have become rectors of universities, lawyers, doctors, scientists, journalists, heads of schools or colleges, teachers, artists, policemen or have chosen other professions. We have School Reunion Tradition, when school leavers visit our school, talk about their careers, studies in other schools or universities, enjoy having a good time with students and teachers or remember their childhood. Our school community is interested in culture, science, literature, people, customs and traditions of other European countries. We are ready to share our experience and find friends in other countries.
