The common name for the protea is the sugar bush.
The grey-green leaves feel like leather. Itﾕs named after the Greek sea-god Proteus who could change into many different shapes. The bark is used for many seasons. The flowers are red and pink. The flower on the sugar bush tree, called the protea, is our South African National flower!
