This tree is small and medium sized, dropping its leaves for a short period in early spring. The tree is normnally multi stemmed, but it can be pruned to form a single stem. The bark of the stem is brownish grey, rough and deeply fissured. It sprouts purple blossoms. It may not be cut down or damaged.
