Hinau Track 2 - NZ

When the first Europeans arrived in the 1800s, about 70% of New Zealand was covered in native forest that looks like those photos.Much of it was cleared for timber or to make way for farming. Despite that, New Zealand still has some magnificent area of native forest and bush. About 10% to 15% of its total land area is native flora, much of it in protected parks and reserves.

Bush Lily (Kakaha)

The berries are edible (sweet and nutritious) and the leaves make a useful strong fibre.
