Hinau Track 1 - NZ

We could go hiking last weekend, finally. We walked the Hinau Track in Mt.fyffe and the Kowhai Valley where named after one of Kaikoura's first whaling families. Mt,fyffe and it's forests provided Maori an important source of food, medicines and canoe timber.
This is the gate of Mt.fyffe Track.

This is the walk through the Hinau Track.

Tree fuchsia(Kotukutu or Konini)
This is one of New Zealand's few deciduous trees. It has a berry(called Konini) that is not only edible but quite pleasant to eat and can be made into jam. It's highly favored by browsing animals(deer and opossum) and is becoming rare in the forest.
