Q) How did you get to school? A) I walked about a mile just to get to school. That was a lot for a little girl like me. There were no buses we all had to walk. C) This is different now a day because we have buses and are not allowed to walk to school.Q) Did you like school? Why or why not? A) Yes! I went to 2 or 3 different schools because I moved 3 to 4 times. I only remember the first one. There was a big playground. And the queen’s mother came in a car one day and drove around the school. I don’t know why she chose our school. C) I wish the president’s mom came to our school!Q) Was there a nurse? A) Yes, she came once a month, she didn’t stay at the school. There was a milkman and dentist though that came around during break but I think you had to pay for the milk. C) We have a nurse that stay at the school all the time. But we don’t have a milkman or a dentist at our school at all.
Q) How big was the school? A) Pretty big. One time there was 40 children in the classroom, (that must have been a big classroom). My friend went to a school that was only one room. C) The must in our classes are 24 children! Our schools are huge!!!!!! The schools in Newtown have at least 50 rooms!Q) What subjects did you have? A) I had Arithmetic, Spelling, History, Geography and Art. You don’t do gym until we were in high school. C) We have Math, Social Studies, Science, Spelling, Art, Gym, Computers, Music and Health. We have a lot more subjects now a day. Q) What did your teachers do to you when you were bad? A) We got a strap. You had to hold out your hands for the teacher to switch it. The little children didn’t get it, only the older children. I got it only once because the whole class was talking and every one got it. It doesn’t hurt too much. C) When we are bad we get talked to by the teacher or principal. We do not get hurt or threatened.
Q) What kind of supplies did you have? A) We had inkwells, paper, pencil, school bag, paint, paintbrush and blackboards. C) We have endless supplies including pencils, pens and books. But we do not have inkwells and in some schools there are whiteboards not blackboards.Q) What grades did you have in your elementary school? A) First grade, second grade and third grade. C) In our elementary schools we have kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade and 4th grade.
