School Compared To Then And Now
Then and Now Project Questions: What was your transportation?Answer: I usually walked 2 miles to and from school. But occasionally my mom would drive me.Question: What were your subjects?Answer: Writing, geography, math, civics, history, physical; education, art, music, grammar, english, reading.
Question: How were the teacher”Ēs dispositions? How did they discipline you?Answer: They were pretty strict. When you were bad or talked when they were talking they would send you to the back of the room. Teachers were allowed to make fun of you. If I talked out I would have to stand up and the whole class would laugh at you.Question: What affected school with World War 2?Answer: There were Airrade drills when we had to go under our desks. Sometimes we even had evacuate the building! Students had to wear a tag with their name, address, telephone number, and parent”Ēs name.
Question: What was your entertainment?Answer: Plays, singing, basketball, teaching the younger girls how to knit, sewing classes (which you had to use your feet to move the treadle).Question: What was graduation like?Answer: Graduation was in the cafeteria. We made our own dresses and sang, and then we got our diplomas.
Question: What were grades in all the schools?Answer: Elementary was Kindergarten to Eighth; High School was Ninth to Twelfth.Question: What did you like the most about school? Answer: I skipped third grade because I was so bright. I felt so grown up.Question: Did you have any recess?Answer: Yes. I had indoor and outdoor. It was about a half an hour long.
