The Doctor's when my mom lived
What did the doctor¡Çs room look like? His office was in his house. He had a waiting room with chairs, magazines, plants, lamps, a sofa, and a desk where his receptionist sat. His waiting room looked like his living room except with a lot of chairs. There was a pocket door to enter his examining room. This room had a linoleum floor, a vinyl plinth with a paper sheet, lots of metal cabinets, a sink, a stainless steel garbage can, lots of bright lights, and lots of medical supplies.
What were some of the common diseases, and how were they treated? Poison ivy, which was treated with calamine lotion. Tonsillitis, which was treated with tonsillectomy. Scarlet and rheumatic fevers. Repertory infections, which was treated with antibiotics. Common colds treated with fluids and sleep.
If you were good did the doctor give you something? If so, what? Yes. He gave you a hard candy and a kiss on the cheek.
How much did it coast for a normal check-up? Twenty dollars or less.
Were the doctors local? How far was it from your house? Yes. It was about two miles.
Was there a sick room? Yes but, there wasn¡Çt a separate room.
