The Measles are a funny word but a deadly disease. You stay in a dark room all alone. An officer would put up a red sign on the door to the room saying Quarantined. Today, you get a shot when you are an infant that will prevent the disease.Pneumonia was a gruesome disease. My grandmother had Pneumonia when she was in 6th grade during World War 2. It is an infection to your lungs. It collects up and grows if nothing is done. My grandmother was one of the first people ever besides soldiers to have penicillin. She says when the needle is injected into your butt, you feel pain like there is no tomorrow.Scarlet fever was extremely painful. Sulfur was used to cure the virus. It attacks the heart. (Heart surgery was not even dreamed of at this period of time.) We have come a long way looking back on the 1940”Ēs. Just think, the last Polio Epidemic was in 1954.My Grandma used the Iron Lung there.
