Rock The School House!!

Q. What was the school like?
A. My grandpa doesn¡Çt think school was much different today. There were only four rooms. The teachers were a lot stricter than they are today. If you forgot your homework you had to write, ¡ÈI will not forget my homework anymore.¡É One hundred times. They had to walk to school every day because there were no buses to ride on, it would be cold in the winter of course and they would be very cold when they arrived.

Q. What did you use for writing?
A. In my grandpa¡Çs school you had to use ink pens. Every time you ran out of ink you would need to put some more ink on it. If the inkpot spilled it would make a very big mess. My grandpa didn¡Çt like writing by hand all the time. What made it easier to hold up the inkpot is they had little holes in the front of their desk to put it in. When they made ballpoint pens they still couldn¡Çt use them for writing. He wished that he had computers to type up all his assignments rather than write them by hand. By the end of the school day his hand hurt really bad.

Q. What happens if you mess up?
A. In my grandpa¡Çs school you had to use ink pens so if you messed up you would have to write the paper all over again. They first used a draft that would be rewritten all over before writing the final copy. It meant doing it twice rather than erasing and writing over the erased portions, it¡Çs not a big deal but. In art they would use pencils and erasers and would correct what went wrong.

Q. Did you have textbooks to take notes and other materials?
A. They didn¡Çt have a lot of visual aids and textbooks. The teachers used a lot the black bored to write sentences, essay questions, or to demonstrate or explain a particular point in their teaching. ¡ÈI think that is what has changed a lot.¡É Says, my grandpa.
