School Then and Now

1. Was school as important as it is now when you went to school? She said, No. They didn”Ēt even need to finish school. My great grandma stopped school in sixth grade!2. Did you have the same special that we have now?She said that she didn”Ēt even have a gym in her school. She also said that they didn”Ēt have art in her school. For recess all they had was a blacktop and two or three swings. They also didn”Ēt have any computers in their school. They didn”Ēt have any library in their school. If they wanted books they would have to get them from the public library.3. Did you have a cafetorium (a cafeteria and auditorium combined) or did you have them separate? She said that they didn”Ēt have either! They would walk home for lunch and walk back to school. They had no assemblies either.4. What were your main classes? Her main classes were history, geography, math, penmanship, spelling, and English.5. What would happen if you misbehaved? My grandpa went to public school and he said that if you misbehaved at the end of the day they would make you stay after no matter what you have to do after school. My grandma went to catholic school and she said that if you misbehaved the nuns would make you sit in the front row with your hands out and if you did something bad she would whack your hands with a yardstick. My grandpa was the first one ever to go to college in his family. It was a big deal because no one finished school and made it that far. That is a lot different than now because now every one finishes school and most everyone goes to college. There were no buses when my grandparents went to school. That is very different then now because we have to be driven to school or go on the bus. Back then you would have to walk to school.
