Being sick in the 1940's

1940¡Çs (Sicknesses)
Q: What was the most common illness when you were in school?
A: Measles

Q: When you were sick and had to stay home what did you do?
A: Listen to radio in bed/ sleep.

Q: What kinds of medicine did you have to take?
A: There were no antibiotics so we had to take aspirins, cod-liver oils, and a lot of liquids!

Q: Was the medicine flavored or just bitter?
A: It was VERY GROSS!

When you were sick in the 1940¡Çs all you did was stay home, sleep, and listen to the radio! Now when you¡Çre sick you stay home, lay in bed and sleep, then just watch TV. A lot of things have changed since the 1940¡Çs! We have antibiotics and medicines that can get you back to school the next day or close to it. They had to take aspirins, cod-liver oil, and just drank a lot of liquids. They had no flavor and tasted bitter. Now we have bubble gum flavor, grape, watermelon, and good tastes! I¡Çm glad that we have the technology that we have today! Because if we didn¡Çt I don¡Çt know if I¡Çd be able to survive in 60 years ago!
