Total Treatment

When children had colds, their parents would rub their chest with Vicks. When they had colds, Vicks would be used also. A piece of flannel cloth would be wrapped around the child¡Çs neck with a safety pin to hold it together so that the medicine would last through the night. When it was necessary to see a doctor, the family doctor would make house calls. The doctor¡Çs bag would be filled with many types of pills and medicine to treat all kinds of illnesses. Most house calls would cost around $2. That was a large amount of money during the 1930¡Çs. When a child had a cut, they may be treated with a medicine called Iodine. Little strips of cut up white bed sheets would be used as bandages. The treatment methods that were normal, but very old fashioned then are now much more high-tech.
