Back Through Time

How were you treated when you were sick as you were growing up?

If you were really sick, the doctor would come to your house and give you medicine. Otherwise, we went to the doctor¡Çs office.

What medicine did you have?
It was mostly just the same as today. We had cough medicine that tasted really bad. We also had aspirin that we used when we had a headache.

Was the doctor¡Çs office you went to big or small?
Well, there was a waiting room, an examining room, and the office. There was also the rooms where you went into and that¡Çs when the doctor gave you your check-up or whatever you went in there for.

Did you have doctors?
Yes. Actually, there were two doctors. There was Dr. Eegy and Dr. Kyle. Dr, Eegy¡Çs office used to be right across from where Hawley School is now. Both doctors had two different offices, but not in the same building.

What did they give you when there wasn¡Çt prescription medicine to help you?
Well, if you were really sick and they didn¡Çt have the prescription medicine you would get a shot of penicillin. Otherwise they would have the prescriptions.

What did they give you when you had the flu or other?
When you had a fever they would give you antibiotics or a shot of penicillin. If you had a cold they would give you aspirin or cough medicine.

How did you get there?
Well, like I said before if you were really sick the doctor would come to your house. Otherwise, we drove there. If you broke a bone or had to go to the hospital they would have an ambulance, but no one ever used it.

There you have it. Sicknesses back through time. It was very interesting learning about how people got taken care of a long time ago. I would like to thank Mr. Royal for teaching Ms. Tischio¡Çs class how to make a web page and my family friend Laurie for telling me all this information. Thanks for reading my first web page!!
