Project Leader

Aim :

  • To involve students in the human face of migration.

  • To allow them to record their own experiences and to learn from the experiences of other children.

  • To reflect about whether the millions of people who have migrated during the 20th Century have felt the same emotions as the students themselves have felt.

  • To have older students think about the value of family and friends and psychological wellbeing.

  • To encourage students to be more caring towards new people who move into their neighbourhood or school.

Note :

This project can be used in the classroom as a topic in its own right particularly in personal development courses but it is also an integral part of studying the larger issue of migration and I would urge teachers to consider contributing to the "Where have my family lived in the 20th Century?" project as well.

Moving House

Method :

Children record with photos, drawing or words their own experiences of moving house with their families or from one parent to another.
How did they feel about leaving friends, favourite places?
How did they make new friends and learn to live in the new place?
Did they need to learn a new language?
