The Progressive Story

Chapter 7 -told by a group of homeschoolers in Melbourne, Florida,USA

 

Peter and his new dragon-friend, Kirin, had been flying for so long that
Kirin was exhausted. As they looked down, they saw a small pennisula in the
Indian River that Kirin thought looked like the perfect place to stop. Once they safely landed, Kirin told Peter to go out and explore the beautiful scenery while he took a nap.

While Peter was exploring, he heard the sound of an alligator in trouble!

He runs towards it. As he gets closer to the noises, he hides behind a
tree to see what's going on.

He sees a tied up alligatorthrashing in an attempt to get loose. There
are two poachers a few feet away, trying to take the eggs out of the
alligator's nest.

He sneaks behind another tree to get a closer look. He trips and crashes
into the tree and shakes it. This startled the Florida Panther that was
sleeping in the tree. It roars loudly and runs off.

The poachers, knowing the panther's hide was much more valuable than
alligator eggs, take off after the panther.

Knowing that the poachers would be busy chasing the panther, Peter took out his sword and cut the ropes holding the mother alligator, setting her free. She rewarded him with an alligator tooth that was carved out of abalone shell, explaining that this is what he seeks for the troll.
Peter returned to where Kirin was resting to show the dragon his find, only to discover that Kirin had turned to stone. By his friend's head Peter found a note from Kirin explaining that he would have to stay this way until his golden whisker grew back.

Peter wondered what to do next. Just then the mother alligator told him
that she had a friend who could help him to get to his next destination.

A dolphin swam up and told Peter that he could ride on her back as far as
the Kennedy Space Center. The dolphin dropped him off near the Visitor's
Complex, and a man offered to take Peter along on his Space Shuttle tour.

Once in the Shuttle, Peter was fascinated by the many buttons. He knew he shouldn't touch...but he couldn't resist pushing just one!
Just as everybody else left the shuttle at the end of the tour, he pushed the big, shiny, red button.
All of a sudden the Space shuttle started to shake! It was lifting off!
Peter was scared, but excited as he held tight to the abalone alligator
tooth.
After a couple of hoursthe shuttle started to lose altitude. He couldn't
guess where he'd be landing....
