Chapter 4
Written by The Challenge Class, Ecole Corinthia Park School, Leduc, Alberta, Canada
June, 2001
Suddenly, the ground below him splits and he falls to the center of the earth. After getting inches from the burning inferno, a nuclear reaction sends him shooting towards the crust in another direction when he stops in the mantle. Two Huge flame-engulfed doors opened before him and he enters what he could almost say is a volcano.
As he enters, the doors close behind him. He is then confronted with a large figure that is covered in flames. The figure points his finger and then, Peter is lifted and held against the wall, by nothing at all! The figure asks Peter: " Where have you come from?"
Peter replies, "I, I, I don't know I just fell..."
"Quiet!" The monster yells. "I know what you want, you want the mental orb, so you can use powers as great as mine!"
"Well, I guess that is what I want, can I have it?" Asks Peter.
"Not just yet! You will need to survive the torture to get it!"
"But, I don't want to be tortured!"
"Ah, then you don't want the orb!"
"Well, yes I do want the Orb!" replied Peter.
"Fine, no torture, but you must pass the test!"
"Sounds good enough but, before I make my mind, what kind of test do I have to pass?" Asks Peter.
"You will have to survive here for a week without food, water or anything else!" The Monster laughs uncontrollably.
Peter looks at the ground, he looks like he isn't doing anything, but millions of thoughts are rushing through his head. " NO!" Peter replies.
"What!" yells the creature.
Peter says, " Just give me the Orb and let me go, this doesn't have to get ugly!"
The creature then threatens: "That is a very unwise decision, fighting against the ruler of the underworld!"
"s..s..s..s..s..s..s..satan!?" cried Peter.
"That's right" replies satan.
"I shall destroy you!"
"Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!" laughs satan.
"I, don't want to die!"
"Die Kid!"
But suddenly a bright light appeared before Peter that led to a tunnel. In a split second Peter was running into it holding on to the Orb that he had quickly grab from the King of the Underworld! Just as Peter's feet touched the tunnel he heard an echoing noise. Peter walked closer and closer to the noise. When he reached the sound, towering overtop of him was this colossal monster. It was the Abominable Snowman. To keep this glowing crystal, Peter knew he had to challenge the greatest monster in the South Pole. He had to challenge the Abominable Snowman. To keep the crystal, Peter had to have a riddle competition. Whoever couldn't answer a riddle lost, and the other person won the crystal. There were two riddles said. The first person to answer was the snowman. Peter thought of a riddle quickly. He asked, " How do you get out of a room that has no windows or doors, and there is no way to get out, only one. The only things in the room are a mirror and a dresser. How do you get out?"
The snowman replies, " I don't know!"
Then Peter replies, "You look in the mirror, see what you saw, take the saw, cut the dresser in half, put the dresser back together which makes a whole, and climb out." Now it is the snowman's turn.
"Why did the chicken cross the road?" Asks the snowman.
"To get to the other side! Duh!" Replies Peter, " I got mine right and you didn't, that means I won! I won the crystal back!" Filled with incredible joy Peter jumped up and down with excitememt. He jumped so high that soon he was flying and when he landed he was on top of a big snowdrift. Dazed with disbelief, Peter sat down and watched the penguins skate around him. Finally he slowly stood up and dug through the snow.
Peter was so exhausted he just had to go to sleep. So he slept and slept. He woke up, early in the morning and was ready for another adventure. So, he was walking around and saw a wooden totem pole, about a meter long and 5 inches wide. He picked it up and started looking for a way out of Canada. ![]()
Suddenly, the Indian Chief Crowfoot appeared. Crowfoot told Peter that he (Crowfoot) was an Indian chief and that the totem pole that Peter was carrying belonged to him. Crowfoot also told Peter that in order to get the totem pole, Peter had to perform a task for him. Peter had to find and bring back a Great Grey Horned Owl for the Indian Chief, within an hour.
So, Peter started running and running, until he ran into a forest. Peter started looking high and low, from side to side and still no Great Grey Horned Owl. Peter was getting frustrated, so he sat and started thinking. He had been thinking for around 45 minutes, and became very bored. Peter looked at his watch, he had 10 minutes to get back to the Indian Chief with a Great Grey Horned Owl.
Suddenly, he heard a Hoot! Hoot! It was a baby Great Grey Horned Owl! Peter thought it must have fallen out of its nest! So, he grabbed it swiftly ran back to the place where Crowfoot was. Peter showed Crowfoot the Great Grey Horned Owl. Crowfoot was very surprised! Still in shock, he gave Peter the totem pole and took the owl from Peter. Crowfoot stared at it and while he was, Peter ran and ran to the next town.
Peter was on the outskirts of Quebec when he saw an old man running towards him.
"Don't try and take any furs!" he yelled.
After Peter asked about this man's remark he explained that he had to answer three questions on Canadian history and then he would give him a beaver fur.
"What happened a lot in New France?" He asked.
"The English and French had a lot of wars." Replied Peter.
"Who is famous for being a governor?"
"Frontenac is famous for being a governor."
"When did Newfoundland join Canada?"
"They joined in 1949."
"Very good! Here is your beaver fur." The man said.
"Thank you. Goodbye, said Peter.
Peter was so tired he could have fallen asleep where he stood. That last treasure was tiring to get! He checked into a hotel for the night and slept until morning. Then he got a taxi to drive him to the cruise line docks. He snuck on board, and found out that it was going to California, U.S.A. He heard the engines start up and the boat started to vibrate a little. He was on his way! ![]()
