Hawaiian House Gecko
Geckos are the only lizards that can produce sounds, other lizards are voiceless. Here in Hawaii we hear a clicking sound and we know a gecko is near. Most species of geckos have sticky toe pads which enable them to cling to smooth surfaces, either vertically or upside down, defying the force of gravity. Geckos are wonderful lizards as they eat harmful termites, which causes havoc to many homes here in Hawaii. Many nights, we might be eating dinner and I view a gecko quickly snatch a termite on the window screen. Obviously, I am cheering the gecko on! What makes it most difficult is when I hear my wife or daughter scream to remove a gecko from inside the house. Actually, I don't mind having them as residents. Here are a few pictures of a gecko that was being removed from our house. Unfortunately his/her tail broke off, but don't worry another one will grow.

Amazing how such a small creature can put such fear into the women of my family.

Quickly, I formed a bond with my small gecko. Alas, I had to release this happy, clicking creature.
