On the second afternoon we visited the
Grand Palace and temple in Bangkok. It
was built in 1783 and it housed the royal
offices, Chapel Royal of the Emerald
Buddha and the royal residences. The
entire complex was striking and unique to
only South East Asia. Thailand is a
constitutional monarachy.

The Grand Palace is the most visited site
in Bangkok. It contains over 100
buildings and is almost one square mile.
It covers the cultural and architectural
history of Bangkok since its creation in
1782. It was used as the residence of the
King of Thailand till 1946. The Grand
Palace is the symbol of the monarchy and
is used for many royal ceremonies by the
present King Rama the IX.

Entering the
grounds of the
Grand Palace.

The detail on
the buildings
was manificient.
The multitiered
spheres are
called "cho
fas", and are
known as tassles
in the air.

Wat (Temple) Phra Kaeo is within the
Grand Palace complex.

The temple is Thailand's holiest shrine.
