Eiheiji Temple
Eiheiji Temple is a very famous Zen seminary in Fukui Prefecture, Japan.
It was opened by Dogen in 1244. There are about 70 buildings in the precincts.
Dogen was born in Kyoto in 1200. He became a priest at the age of 14 in
Hieizan. He went to China when he was 24 to be under strict discipline. After
learning "Zazen", he came back to Kyoto to open a Zen seminary. Then he was
asked to move to Echizen (Fukui Prefecture), and opened Eiheiji.
