Deer Stalking in New Zealand

Dad and I went deer stalking in the Urewera National
Park. During April the stags roar and it is the
best time to go hunting. This is a photo I took
of Dad with a red deer he shot. I saw it first
and told Dad where it was. Dad says he's lucky
I went with him.

Dad took this photo
of me with the deer.
This stag is a 10 pointer
red deer and they are the
most common deer found
in New Zealand bushes.

Deer control is now mainly achieved through
recreational and commercial hunting. Even though
there aren't as many deer in our bushes as there
used to be, they are still a threat to our natural
environment. Deer tend to eat new seedlings and
can wipe out species for generations to come.
