Kukui Tree
The Kukui is the state tree of Hawaii. Its oil was used for light and medicinal purposes by the Hawaiians. The Kukui is also know as the Candlenut Tree, and the nuts are polished and made into a leis.

This particular Kukui tree was planted 13 years ago. I recall the Punahou class of 1999 attending a celebration of the planting of this tree when they were kindergartners.

The leaves of the tree are shiny and the tree is easy to recognize along a hillside or mountain.

The children of Wilcox F enjoy this tree for its beauty and shade on a hot Hawaiian day.
