1999 World Series - U.S.A.
Abner Doubleday was credited with the creation of the game of American baseball in 1839. Since 1903, there has been a championship game between the best teams from the National and American leagues. The World Series is a playoff of the best of a seven game series. The World Series takes place each October after a lengthly playoff tournament. This year, the New York Yankees are playing the Atlanta Braves.
My most memorable World Series was in 1955, when I was a young boy growing up in New York. The 1955 World Series matched the Brooklyn Dodgers versus the New York Yankees. The Dodgers finally won their first World Series. Unfortunately, a few years later, the franchise moved to Los Angeles.
One of the Brooklyn Dodgers stars was Jackie Robinson. Jackie broke the race barrier of baseball as he was the first black man to play in the major leagues. Before that time there was a Negro league in America. Baseball is truly an American institution.
