Kimono Fashion Show - Japan

There was a Kimono fashion show coordinated
by a mother of a Yuge Elementary School 5th
grader.

"Juni Hitoe" --- A twelve-layered ceremonial
costume worn by court ladies in the Heian
period (about 1000 years ago).

Kimono has changed as time
goes by.

Modern Kimono

Kimono is a Japanese traditional loose-
fitting garment with sleeves which is
folded over in front. There are no buttons;
a sash called an Obi is used to close the
garment.
Today most Japanese wear western-style
clothes in everyday life. Kimono is worn on
special occasions such as weddings and
ceremonies.
