The day of German reunification
3rd October

Germany has been divided from 1949 to 1989 into
two different countries. One the GDR, you can see
the flag above, was the former soviet zone, and has
been governed by socialists governers.
People in the GDR could see West German TV and they
saw that people in WestGermany could buy all things
they wanted. People in the GDR, they had all jobs
but less live standards. More about history of the
GDR you can read in englis under http:
//www.thailand-info.de/berlin/zeittafeln_ddr.htm

Berlin has been divided into
West Berlin and East Berlin.
In 1961 the GDR started to built
a wall all through berlin and
the whole country, so that
people couldnŠň leave the GDR
anymore. Many people have been
killed by trying to cross the
wall !

People from Western Germany
could get into the GDR, but
the borders were highly secured
and normally the soldiers
searched one hour or longer
the whole car, and took all things
they didnŠň want to be shown
to the east german people with
them.

In 1989, it was the area of Gorbatschow in the
Sovjet Union, a lot of people left the GDR over
the Czech Republic or Hungary and a lot people
started to do big demonstration and in the days
of october and november 1989, the wall fell down
and there was a huge celebration in Berlin at
these days, at the wall has been destroyed.

the wall you can find under http://www.berlinwall.de/
english. And from October3rd 1990 Germany has
been reunited and one country. But there are still
a lot of problems, and the East Germans are coping
with much more unemployment and have less money
than we have in the western parts.
