National Grandparent's Day - U.S.A.
September 12, 1999
In 1973, the state of West Virginia began a campaign to create a day for grandparents. This effort was spearheaded by Marian McQuade of Fayette County, mother of fifteen children.
The purpose of grandparent's day is to honor grandparents, to give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children's children and to help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.
