Recycling Plants

When people tidy up their gardens at home, they pull out a lot of weeds and cut off branches
that are growing over their paths and driveways. They can bring these to the Kimbriki
Recycling Centre in the back of their car or in a trailer. Weeds and exotic plants get stacked
up so that they get very hot. This kills the seeds then the plant material gets crushed up to
make mulch for selling to gardeners.
If people at home have enough space, they could stack up their weeds and cuttings in their
own yard and make their own mulch and this would save using trucks and bulldozers and
polluting the air. But many people have rather small yards.

If people sort out the garden clippings they can be very helpful because, if the branches they
cut off belong to Australian native trees and plants, then these can be chopped up into mulch
and put straight back into gardens and parks. There is a special part of the Kimbriki
Recycling Centre just for plant material from Australian natives.
