Why the emu cannot fly

A long long time ago there was an Emu who was the best at flying because he could go higher and faster than the other birds.

One day the Brolga told the Emu that if the other birds chop off his wings then he could fly higher and faster and even better than before.

So the Emu let the other birds cut off his wings. When the Emu tried to fly he ran and ran but he could not take off.

So he tried again and again for hours and hours but he just couldn't take off.

Then he realised that the other birds had tricked him.

From then on the Emus don't have wings and they can't fly.
