Poland is a country which for centuries has been
beloved by storks one of the most beautiful
birds in Europe. These big, majestic and dignified
birds, with characteristic long legs and long,
red beaks, spend springs and summers in our country
(when they lay their eggs raise the young)
and fly away to Africa before our often frosty
and snowy winter.

In Poland storks enjoy great
sympathy and it is commonly
believed that their nest
brings good luck and prosperity
to the household and family.
In the picture you can see

wooden village house.

Poland enjoys the biggest population of storks
in Europe. The absolute record belongs to a
tiny little village of Zywkowo, which since
the beginning of May officially changed its
name to Storks village Zywkowo. This village,
located in north-east Poland, has only 36
inhabitants and 200 storks, living in 45 nests!
Storks, known for their perfect memory, come back
to their nests every year during their whole life
despite the fact that they have to cover the
distance of over 1200 miles.
Storks village Zywkowo inhabitants help the
storks to repair the nests and they
build daises to accommodate next ones (because
heavy nests often cause the house roofs to
break down).
