Hawaii became the 50th state of the United States of America on August 20, 1959. This date is a state holiday in Hawaii, and is called Admission Day.



The state flower is the Yellow Hibiscus




The state fish is the Humuhumunukunukuapuaa.




The state bird is the Nene, Hawaiian goose.



The state tree is the kukui tree. Its nut contains oil that was used for light by the Hawaiians.



The state flag displays Britian's Union Jack in the upper left corner with eight alternating stripes of white, red, and blue representing the eight principal islands in the Hawaiian chain.
