Preparing Picture Files
Some Basics
Pictures will be an important component of your Earth Calendar Web Pages. Picture files refers to both drawings and photos.
You will need access to a scanner and suitable software to be able to scan and save your pictures.
You will need a graphics programme to manipulate and save your scanned images. Most scanners have suitable software included. If you haven't got suitable software, there are some good freeware/shareware programmes available for download on the internet.
We recommend: Paint Shop Pro
Or visit Softseek.com to search for other graphics software.
Pictures are best saved as follows:
Photos: jpg or jpeg format
Drawings: gif format, although jpg or jpeg formats are also suitable
Please remember the larger the picture, the longer the download time for visitors to your page. We recommend picture files are no larger than 450 pixels wide.
Options you could consider:
Keep picture size to a minimum, we prefer no larger than 250 pixels wide.
Use a smaller "thumbnail" picture with a link to view the larger image. This gives visitors the option of viewing a larger image only if they wish.
An example of thumbnail use can be found at: Punaluu, Black Sand Beach, Island of Hawaii

Some html knowledge is required.
